Maryville-Alcoa Daily Times Tizzy’s Corner Thursday, September 4, 1969: “We often wonder where people go and what happens to them after they leave Blount County. Jake C. Waters has received word of the death of his aunt, Mrs. Alice Hileman Page of Oregon. She passed away on July 24, five days before her 91st birthday. She was the last surviving member of the Jake C. and Mirianda Hileman family who left Maryville with nine children in March 1890. They homesteaded in the lumber town of Mobile, Oregon. The children going to Oregon with them were Emma, Richard, Cal, Alice, Durice, Clark, Della, Mary and Wince John. A daughter, Tilda Hileman, had married a Whetsell and left Maryville several years earlier. Jake Hileman left for Oklahoma in 1904, and Mattie remained and married James Thomas Waters on Dec. 31, 1890. The Hilemans owned several hundred acres of land when they lived here on the Old Walland Highway [Tuckaleechee Pike]. Grandview Cemetery is now part of that land. Mr. Hileman was a charter member of Pleasant Hill Mwthodist Church. Mr. & Mrs. Jake Waters have visited Mrs. Page and attended the Hileman reunion near Mobile, Oregon, where fifth members of this pioneer family met.” ---Elizabeth Timmons.
