Does anyone have information regarding the parents and/or additional ancestors of Mahalah Hileman? My records indicate she was born in 1829 in Burke Co., NC. She first married Thomas J. Sprouce. They are listed in the 1850 Yancey County census with a daughter, Senia. I believe Thomas died sometime before 1863 since Mahalah married Lawrence Grindstaff about that time. Mahalah died May 24, 1898 in Mitchell Co., NC. The 1850 Yancey Co. census lists Mahala and Thomas Sprouce living next to a household containing David Hileman (23 yrs at the time), wife Nancy (22), sons Jacob (5), Reuben (4), and Henry (1) and a second household containing Anna Hileman (69 yrs), Catherine (21 yrs), Elizabeth (17), and John C. (18). I suspect Anna could be Mahala's mother and David, Catherine, Elizabeth, and John her siblings. I would appreciate hearing from anyone with information on this family. Thanks. Jill
