Hello Debi,
To answer you question, proably yes. Being able to prove it, is something else. After reading your question I remembered reading somewhere (on the internet) the answer. I tried to go and find it, but I could not locate easyly. In short it said something to the effect that all the Hile, Hiles, Heil, Hyle, Hayle and so on, where proably related way back when. There was a tribe or clan that lived in some valley in Germany. When they started to leave and come over here some of the spellings got changed. Then as time went on some of them changed the spellings to make it more Americanized or to sound less Germany sounding. My wife spoke with a lady that we know who was from Germany about this. She said that the name in German sounds like heel, like the part of your foot, and means hail, like Hail to the King. This might explaine all the different spellings and pronunciations. From all of that I could understand why some of them wanted change their name.
Hope this helped, what have you been able to find? Have you started looking into your linage? How far have you gotten? Let me know if you have any other questions.
Bye,
Mark Hile
