Among my father's papers I have found an interesting handwritten contract signed by Cyrus C. HILDRETH in Bloomfield (Skowhegan) Maine dated March 9 1853 Re: Going to the Australian Goldfields.

Said Hildreth agrees to pay my GG Grandfather (John K. MORRISON) a percentage of his earnings in the Australia Gold Mines in return for my GG Grandfather paying his way to Australia.

I know my GG Grandfather ended up in Australia (Junee, New South Wales), but it looks like Hildreth was back in the US (Michigan) in the 1860 Census (with wife Elizabeth/Betsey and son William age 7). Did he ever go to Australia?

Hope there is a HILDRETH descendent out there with whom I can share a copy of this document. I would love to learn if he did indeed ever go farther West than Michigan.
