The HFA has published 5 books and one CD to date with the genealogy of the descendants of both Richard Hildreth, who is alleged to have come to New England in 1635, and Thomas Hildreth, who died in Southampton, New York, in 1657. I am a descendant of Thomas who left no clues as to his origins in England which survive today. The HFA is also doing a search of England at the present time in order to locate any documentation regarding the above two men. So far, we have discovered that the family was in the NE area of England since at least the year 926. There is mention in the Familia Minorum Gentium of Alfred, expelled by Saxon King Athelstan, who had two sons, Hildred and Eldred. From these latter, came many descendants on both side of the Atlantic. There is some evidence the family has been connected with the early Christian Church in England which pre-dated the Roman conquest and the takeover of religion there by the Roman Catholic Church. There is also a Saxon nun, St. Hild, who founded an abbey in the NE section of England and who is buried there in her church. If anyone has any information regarding any documentation of records for either Richard or Thomas, or for the family in ancient England, please email me.
