Hi Kathy,
I was with Dave Ketterer, Bud Hildreth, and Bud's daughter Susan Scallion at the National Archives in Pittsfield, MA this past Dec. 8th.We were researching information for a new Hildreth CD-Rom on American Hildreth war soldiers. While I was there I scanned through the microfilms for the Census on Essex County, NY from 1790 to 1910.I discovered that an Adam Hildreth between the age of 26 - 45 was living in Crown Point, NY in the Summer of 1810.He had one wife in the same age bracket with three sons under 10 and two daughters between 10 - 16.I assume this was the Adam Hildreth son of Jonathon Hildreth who married Sally Baldwin.Apparently Adam was this first in Essex County, but where he went after that is a mystery to me.The family wasn't on any of the later censuses for Crown Point.
Now the James Hildreth in question, I believe is the same son of Joshua. There's a marriage record in 1836 that has James, then 43, marrying Miranda Allen, then 17.An 1860 census has Miranda living in Ticonderoga, NY with her son Sheldon, age 17, but no sign of James Hildreth since the marriage record.Sheldon has one son named Norman around 1872, and he dies in Johnson City Tennessee in an Old Soldiers Home.I have no idea if Norman had children or not.All very interesting to me whether it helps you or not, but please let me know.Thanks.
Jon Andrew Hildreth
