While in France a friend from Liban told me that the name was close to Hajjar ("rock").
One of the alternative speelings I've seen is Ixar.
My mother's familly is from Mexico City. I have only one uncle on that side (Reynaldo Híjar Cid). The familly of my grand father (Reynaldo A Híjar Medina) came from San Luis Potosí. His father (also a Reynaldo) was a mine engineer at San Luis Potosí. I remember hearing about a Jerónimo Híjar at familly reunions.
I live in PA USA near Philadelphia.
