John Hightower and Nancy Keith - Mt. Vernon, TX

I'm hoping some new researchers to the list may have some information.

John Hightower [b. 1810, Union Co., SC; d. 1882, Franklin Co., TX] and Nancy Casteel Meek Keith [b. 1815, Madison Co., AL; d. 1903, Franklin Co., TX] were my gg grandparents. They had 15 children: Wm. Terry, James R., Mary Ann, Emeline, and Thomas Casteel all b. TN; Margaret Ann, b. MS; and Elijah Meek, John Andrew, Gabriel Meek, Mahala Jane, Isaac Newton, Stephen Jasper, Rachel Amanda, William Flavius, and Silas Elmer all b. TX. [Isaac and Stephen were twins]

They moved to MS in 1833 where they lost William at age 6; then arrived in TX in April 1944. While crossing the MS they lost Thomas Casteel, who fell overboard and was never seen again.

John and Nancy lived in Cass Co around Jefferson for awhile, but when they lost three children in 1844 to a widespread illness of some kind, they moved to Titus Co., which later became Franklin Co.

I have information about Nancy and their children and most of their descendants; however, I can find nothing about John except that he had a brother, James [b. abt. 1813 in SC; d. after 1870 but have no idea where.]

Some have suggested their father was Robert, but there's no proof of that. The census that could identify John's parentage, 1830, does not list names of children, only ages.

Any help would be appreciated.
