Georgia early 1800s -- Mary Hightower who married Allen Smith
I am hoping to discover information about Mary Hightower, born roughly 1798-1800 in GA, married in 1817 in GA to Allen Smith born 6 June 1798 in "Esti, SC."They raised their family in Wilkinson County, GA, and their children lived in Wilkinson, Randolph, Stewart, and Quitman Counties in GA through the 1800s.
I have two sources that mention Mary Hightower, one published by Randolph County Historical Society, and the other quoted online from the Smith Family Bible. The earliest Census record I can find that appears to be them is 1820 Census Wilkinson County, GA; it doesn't name Mary Hightower, although the other variables are correct.
I cannot find Allen Smith, her husband, on the 1830 or 1840 Census for Wilkinson Co., GA, even though it is pretty certain he lived there in 1820 and died there in 1841. Two of his children were still living there in 1850.
Children:
Larkin B. Allen Smith (M) b. 1818 in NC, SC, or GA, not sure
Ann Rebecca Smith, b. 1819 in GA
Francis Marion A. Smith (F) b. 1822 in GA (Wilkinson Co.)
Mantury Missouri Ann Smith b. 1825 in GA
Joel Eason Jason Smith b. 15 Apr. 1827 in GA (Wilkinson Co.)
John Allen Madison Smith b. 1828 in GA (Wilkinson Co.)
Since Allen Smith seems to have given all of his children four names, it seems likely that he himself had four names. It's possible that the census records have him listed with one of his other names. However, when I search the census records for Wilkinson Co. where he lived, nothing shows up as a possibility. I have looked through every page, and nothing seems to come up with the right configuration of children for Wilkinson Co. in 1830 and 1840.
I am new to genealogical research, and perhaps I am missing opportunities even though I am searching very hard. Does anybody have any advice to offer?
Does anyone have a Mary Hightower born about 1798-1800 who married Allen Smith in GA?
