Ms. Shaw:
Billy Hightower and I worked on this problem some years ago.We debated whether your Henry R. Hightower who married Temperance Ray could be a son of William Hightower of Fayette County, GA, but we finally concluded that there was no evidence to support it.William and his sons migrated from NC to GA with several sets of cousins/nephews/siblings who were leap-frogging over one another from county to county. Some of them eventually were sorted out; others not.Because Henry R. Hightower was in Clarke County, GA, with William's family, I thought he was likely a nephew of William, but I have no documentation to support this.Billy was in possession of my latest theory on Henry some years ago and I have not obtained any further information to add to that. (You might go to the Inman Methodist Church web site, Fayette County, GA, and pull up my Hightower history there to see theories on the several unidentified Hightowers in Clarke and Fayette Counties, GA. I think if you type Inman Methodist Church into your browser it will lead you to the list that contains the URL for that site.)
I can only say that new material does turn up from time to time, as for example the old notebook of Thomas Hightower which proved him to be a son of Charnal and Frances Hightower of Caswell County, NC.None of us had any idea of Thomas until that record was made public by his descendants, from an old trunk preserved in their family for generations.
I do hope somehow you can solve the question about Henry R. Hightower because he is certainly a member of the Hightower family from whom we all descend.I only regret that I cannot offer anything helpful, nor does the "Fayette County Heritage Book" contain anything new on him (I wrote all but two of the Hightower manuscripts for the book).
Please accept my condolences on Billy's recent death and my wishes for your success in solving the identity of Henry R. Hightower's parents.
