Just wanted to share some info/insight I discovered while running some searches for Teresa and Samuel's descendants. I had posted on Coupee; Coupe; Couper; Cooper; Coop; Cope; Copp GenForum's trying to locate the elusive "Miss Evaline Coupee". I have been corresponding with a researcher from the COOPER Family Forum who took some interest and lead me toward some great info.
It appears that her name is Francis Evaline (Coupee) Highsmith and it seems probable that we have located her mother and brother living next door in 1860 Bastrop, TX.

Malcijah Benjamin (Kige) HIGHSMITH, son of Teresa (Williams) HIGHSMITH and Samuel HIGHSMITH, Capt., was born 17 May 1827 in Old Caney, Bazoria Co., Texas, and died 4 May 1893 in Bastrop, Texas.
He married Evaline COUPEE 1851 in Bastrop Co., Texas.

Thus your COUPEE may be the same invariable spelling as much as the CUPEE and CUPA considering these individuals were living between HIGHSMITH households in this particular census.
