I'm hoping someone has a list of the children of Nathaniel Morris (born 7-22-1829) and Sarah Highsmith (born 1835). I have been working to little avail on my husband's side and believe I may finally be near a breakthrough. One of his gr-grandmothers was Annie Hix/Hicks, daughter of James Hicks and Alice Matilda Morris. His great uncle knew that Annie came from Bastrop, so that's where I started. I have since found the 1880 census where Annie/Anna is listed with her parents James and Matilda as well as her 2 siblings Fannie and Jesse (all daughters). I was able to find a partial 1870 census list that has an Alice Morris born abt. 1848 in Bastrop, TX. The birthdates make me believe this Alice Morris on the 1870 Bastrop census is the same as the Matilda Hicks on the 1880 census (obviously now married and using her middle name). The Alice Morris on the 1870 census appears with 5 other Morris names right after hers: Charley (b. abt. 1863), Jesse (b. abt. 1861), Mary (b. abt. 1863), Nathan (b. abt. 1865), and Rid (b. abt. 1835). I noted that, except for the "Rid" Morris, the others are all names listed in the 1880 census for Nat. & Abagail Morris - birthdates again match up for those in the 1870 to be Nat's and Abagail's children. It is my current theory that this Nathaniel Morris born 1829 married Sarah Highsmith and had Alice Matilda. He later remarried Abagail Sims (as there are Sims children listed as stepchildren on the 1880 census). However, this all speculation (long and confusing speculation). Birthdates all align and it all seems reasonable, but I don't as yet have any verification. Does anyone know if Alice Matilda Morris is the daughter of Nathaniel Morris and Sarah Highsmith?
