I came to this deduction that Thomas Highley is Susan's father for two reasons. One is that he was the only other Highley in that area of Muskingum County during that time period (1850 Census, Salt Creek, Muskingum Co). The second is that in a later census, one of their children (Mary Jane? Mary something:) was living with Thomas Highley. I then find Thomas Highley in 1860 in Hocking County OH, with Mary Jane Parr (daughter of Thomas & Susan) age 18, with wife Susan (shown as Susanna in 1850 census). I came onto this by looking for where Mary Jane Parr went. It would only make sense that if her parents both died (what did happen to them anyways?) that she would end up with her grandparents or other relatives. So, it's not a proven link, but having done this for a while, I believe it's pretty likely that Thomas is Susan Highley's father. I do wish there was more in the way of marriage, birth or death records in this era. :) Denise
