Dear Kate,
In 1992 the Higdon Family Association, Inc. published a cookbook, "Home Cookin': Higdon Cooks," containing a recipe for "Green Tomato Relish." It called for 2 gallons green tomatoes chopped fine, combined with chopped cabbage, onion, and green and red peppers. Salt, sugar, celery seed, mustard seed, whole cloves, and 3 quarts vinegar were other ingredients. So maybe this is one of the sources of the recipe. One of my Higdon cousins submitted it, and I don't know where she got it.
Sincerely,
Barbara Wilkie Tedford
