This is what I know about Joseph Charles Higbee. He was born 1796 in Pennsylvania (probably the Minisink); he married Rhua Ann Henshaw 27 Jul 1823 in Coshocton County, Ohio. He died and is buried in Orange, Coshocoton County, Ohio. My connection to this family is through Rhua Ann Henshaw. We have very strong reason to believe she is the daughter of Jonathan Seman Henshaw and Elizabeth Stafford of Berkeley County, Virginia (now WV). The Henshaw genealogies record that J.S. Henshaw married Elizabeth Stafford, and their wonderful website shows their son as George Henshaw of Union County, Kentucky. It also points to Rhua Ann as being George's sister. Elizabeth died before 1806, when J.S. Henshaw married Elizabeth Mounts in Berkeley County, Virginia. The Henshaws moved to Coshocton County, Ohio, during an early period of pioneer settlement, where J.S. Henshaw died while daughter Rhua Ann was still a child. Elizabeth is presumed to be the sister of Francis Asbury Stafford, an early settler of Coshocton County. In 1820, an unidentified female is recorded in his household of the right age to be Rhua Ann. Francis two oldest children named their daughters Rhua Ann. And when his son William J. Stafford moved to Osage County, Missouri, he was joined later by Alfred Augustus Higbee, son of Rhua Ann and Joseph Higbee. The connection is based on mostly circumstantial evidence, and as you can see, it is the Stafford line that really interests me. I'm sorry I don't have anything more on the Higbee ancestors of Joseph Charles Higbee. However, if you find that we can exchange information, I would love to. Notify Administrator about this message?
