When the Killingworth, CT, FRANKLINS removed to Woodbury, CT, they intermarried with the HICKOKS of that latter place and established a relationship between two of the most famous Indian fighters in the history of our country. Lieut. Roswell FRANKLIN (b. 1729) was a 2-great uncle of James Butler ("Wild Bill") HICKOK (b. 1837).

Lieut. Roswell FRANKLIN (b. Killingworth, CT, 1729) m. Jerusha HICKOK (b. Woodbury, CT, 1740). Aaron HICKOK (b. Woodbury, CT, 1842) m. Deborah KENT. Jerusha and Aaron were children of Stephen and Bethia (ROOT) HICKOK. Aaron and Deborah (KENT) Hickok were Wild Bill's great grandparents. His grandparents were Oliver Otis and Chloe (DEWEY) HICKOK. His parents were William Alonzo and Polly (BUTLER) HICKOK. James Butler ("Wild Bill") HICKOK was b. Troy Grove, LaSalle Co., IL, 1837, and was shot in the back in Deadwood, Dakota Terr., 1876. In his short life, he was an Indian fighter, Federal marshall, and Federal scout. He also toured with Buffalo Bill's Wild West Show. He was married to Agnes MERSMAN.
