Martha is 1/2 sister to both James Madison Baker and Selena Hickson. I have found several cases where the ward of the Head of household winds up marrying the guardian's child.

As for Ester, I have found her death notice in the Sumter Banner, but have found no marriage notice to either Reuben Hickson or John Baker. I haven't found a death notice for Reuben either. I have combed the Baker and Hickson probate records but have found no reference to Ester's maiden name. She may have been Methodist, but no notice of her death or marriages were found in the Methodist newspaper. I haven't seen anything in the Baptist papers which served that area of South Carolina.

Since the family lived in the Clarendon portion of Sumter District there might be something in the various church records from that part of the County, Living long distance and dependent on microfilmed records, I haven't found anything. She may have connections to Old Darlington County and in Lee County. The Byrd homeplace was on Lynches Creek that was included in Lee County. Selina's brother married a Timmons from Florence.

Reuben and his first wife Mary Allen lived in Williamsburg District before moving to Sumter District so perhaps she was from that area.
