Hickson/Hixson/Hixon DNA Project (for Genforum)
The Hickson/Hixson/Hixon DNA Project is just getting started. We'd be glad to add anyone who is eligible.Eligible people are men whose paternal line (father's father's father etc.) had the name Hickson, Hixson, or Hixon. These men can take a Y-DNA test.Women whose paternal line is eligible need to recruit a male relative with the same paternal line.
The web site is http://www.familytreedna.com/public/HicksonHixsonHixonhttp://www.familytreedna.com/public/HicksonHixsonHixonPeople who want to join can join via this site.In the space "Why do you want to join this project?" please include some information about your line including the name, dates, location, and spouse of your earliest Hickson/Hixson/Hixon ancestor. If you are not sure or have other questions about the project, please send me email.
The cost varies, depending on which test you choose. A minimum (12 marker) Y-DNA test is about $100, but a 25- or 37-marker test is preferred because it gives much more information.(Participants in a project get a discount from FTDNA's regular prices.)
If you have questions about DNA testing, look at http://www.familytreedna.com/faq.htmlhttp://www.familytreedna.com/faq.html

On the main page at http://www.familytreedna.com/http://www.familytreedna.com/ this project is not yet listed under SURNAME PROJECTS because we do not yet have any participants. However, the SEARCH BY SURNAME box at upper right can find the project page if you enter any of the project surnames.
The goal of the project is to compare the Y-DNA of different lines, in order to estimate how closely they may be related and to learn about their origins.
Looking forward to hearing from potential participants!
