Hi Connie,
The maritimes are on the east coast of Canada. My relatives were from New Brunswick and Nova Scotia. There are many Hicks still in the area of Sackville, New Brunswick and I can trace my roots back to the early pioneers in the area. They were United Empire Loyalists who moved from New Hampshire to be faithful to Britain.
My father moved to Ontario in 1957 as his father was looking for work here. A funny twist is that my husband's godfather's last name is Hicks and his roots are from Ontario. I'm not sure where Leeds Co. is but I'll look that up. Any luck with your DNA testing? It is believed that my father's maternal grandmother may have been suffering from the same genetic disease that he had. Back then they diagnosed her as having "asthma"......
