Hicks, Cox, Tn. 1800 era
A lot of genealogy work is spectulation. After an assumtion is made you go about finding documention to prove up your spectulations. In the south sometimes this is made very hard by the lack of physical data because a lot was burned in the Cival War.I yet lack the documention that our Elizabeth Cox's father was in fact William but read below and make your own conclusion.
Stephen Hicks b bef 1760 m Elizabeth Cox d/o William Cox and Sarah Bosley found in the following site.

Connection made by the name Greenberry Cox.
Please note the re-use of the name Greenberry by the descendants of our Stephen Hicks.
It then is a reasonable assumtion that our Elizabeth Cox is the daughter of William Cox because she had a brother named Greenberry.
Note also the property bought by Stephen Hicks shown below.
Tennessee deed dated 1787
This indenture made the 10th day of march in the year of our lord 1787. Between Robert Gray lately of Sullivan county and the State of Franklin and Greenbury Cox and Stephen Hicks of the state and county affore said.
Robert Gray for and in consideration of the sum of 250 pounds Virginia currency to him in hand, paid by the Greenbury Cox and Stephen Hicks before the sealing and delivery of this presents the reciept whereof the said Robert Gray. The rest is very hard to read, but it is for property containing 500 and 60 acres.
We believe this Robert Gray is kin to the wife of Stephen Hicks who married Hanna Gray.
Greenbury Cox is the brother or uncle to the wife of Stephen Hicks who married Elizabeth Cox.
I am sure this will be documented befor too long.
