Debbie,
Wish you would have responded to my messageswith some answers. So you didn't believe me in Aug 2000 and took no action and now you still can't see the forest for the trees. Ha, just joking. Really, the question has never been about Caswell's bunch. The question is about "your" David John. If he was Caswell's son, why would he, having married in 1857, be at his father's house during 1860 census? There's no logical reason, nothing to gain or lose by being there. Where is Mary Ann and Sarah, his first born? This should have been your red flag. The 1850/1860 census on Caswell alone is the reason I think it's plain the John in his household, as I said back in Aug 2000, is not your David.
Here's some additional information that should help clear up the problem or confuse the issue. Jacob Tison, 33, born NC, Rachel 26, born TN, Mary 8, born TN, Henry 6, born TN, John 4, born TN, and Phillip 2, born TN are on the 1850 Sevier County Census. You'll find Jacob Tison, and at times, different members of family on the 1860 and 1870 Sevier County Census. You will not find Mary with him on the 1860. She is 17, with David Hix 21, and Sarah 1 on the 1860 Sevier County census. Who is this fellow?
You may not accept my logical view on this, but either way I hope you get proof on the parents of your David. Bill
