I don't have anything in my previous research notes that would help you.My focus was primarily on Hicks/Hix families that had a Nathaniel in it.However, I did some looking about yesterday to see if I come up with something to offer.
(a) I came across your grandfather Marion's WWI draft registration card, dated June 1917, and note that he reported that he was born 29 April 1890 (sic), in Augusta, Georgia, and that he had a wife and two kids.Checking the 1920 census, I see him in Augusta, with his first wife, Mary, and three kids:Annie, Julie, and Marion Jr.Marion Jr. was born after the date of the WWI draft registration card.
(b) In the 1930 census, I found Marion Jr., Mary H., and Clifford H. Hicks with their aunt Helen and her first husband, Clifford T. Hair.Helen's father, Elijah J. Hicks, was also living with them; Julie and Annie aren't in the home.Georgia Death Index indicates that the children's mother, Mary, died in 1929.
(c) In the 1900 census, I found your great-grandfather, Elijah J. Hicks, a widower with four kids:Julia, Helen, Marion, and George, in Richmond Co. GA.
(d) In the 1870 census, I found your great-great-grandparents, Elijah and Amanda Hicks, with kids: Elijah, Nancy, John, James H., and Minnie.Next door are 21-year old Jesse and Fannie Hicks.Amanda was 31, so Jesse was surely not her son. However, Amanda's husband was 40, so I imagine Jesse might have been his son by a previous marriage, however, that's just a wild guess.Jesse might also have been a nephew or a cousin.
(e) The interesting thing about that record is that there is no Charles Hicks in the household. However, when I go forward to the 1880 census, I find Amanda Hicks with son, John E., and nephew, Charles Hicks.
I looked around, and the only Hicks household that I could find in 1860 with a Charles Hicks of the right age was this one:
(f) 1860 United States Federal Census
Home in 1860: District 119, Richmond, Georgia
Post Office: Bel Air
Daniel Hicks 39, born in South Carolina
Solethea Hicks 33
John T Hicks 17
Malvina Hicks 14
Daniel Hicks 9
Carrie Ann Hicks 8
Charlie Hicks 4
Marianna Hicks 2
Based on that finding, I'd conclude that Daniel Hicks, 39 and born in South Carolina was a brother to your great-great-grandfather.
(g)I looked further and found:
1850 United States Federal Census
Home in 1850: Division 73, Richmond, Georgia
Daniel Hicks 29, born in South Carolina
Celina Hicks 25
John T Hicks 7
Elvina Hicks 6
Elvina, in the 1850 census, was surely Malvina in the 1860 census.I'd conclude that Daniel's first wife, Celina, was mother of John T. and Elvina/Malvina, but that Solethea, in the 1860 census, was Daniel's second wife and mother of:Daniel Jr., Carrie Ann, Charlie, and Marianna, and that Daniel's son Charlie was Amanda's nephew Charles Hicks.
To be continued...
