Peawde, Hicks, Hearn, Hill-Cherokee
I'm looking for any Native American information on these names.I'm a descendant of Susannah Peawde and Joseph Hix.Some of their children were born in old Cherokee territory in VA.a "Pegid/Pewid Hix."I have spoken to some Cherokee researchers, and they told me that the Hicks have long been associated with the Cherokee people, and I've seen one post on here that advised that "Peadwe" is an old Cherokee surname. But that's as far as I've gotten.I know that Pegid's descandents became associated with the Broom Cherokee faction.
I'm a descendant of his brother, Henry according to my family tree.
All of the Hill descendants in my family have strong Native American features and claim it's all from the Hick's family, however, the only ancestor that I can find who is Cherokee is Susanna Peawde, and the only way I've determined that is by the little info I've been able to drum up on her surname, and the fact that at least one of her children was born on Cherokee Homeland.
Any information on the Peadwe name, or Susanna herself would be very helpful.
Thank you
Jason
