My grandmother, Vernia Elizabeth Red (nee Hicks) was a daughter of Alvin James Hicks, son of James NMN Hicks and Mary Elizabeth Hicks (nee Thornton). They were my grandmother's paternal grandparents.
A family Bible gave the inscriptions that they had 5 children: John, Jenny, Nanny, Joe, and Alvin. But it didn't give the full names. So perhaps one of the girls were named (Jenny)Florence or (Nanny)Florence. They lived in Angelina County, Texas.
I have two older Hicks cousins: Luria Leticia Uilkie (Wheeler) and Nelda Jean Rogers (nee Wheeler). Their mother was Luria Alice Wheeler (nee Hicks), daughter of Alvin James Hicks and sister of Vernia Elizabeth Red (see above). Anyway both Leticia (who is older) and Nelda disagree about Alvin's siblings. Nelda is basing her knowledge on Alvin Hicks' wife's (Mattie Ann Hicks (Foster)) Bible inscriptions. Leticia remembers her grandparents talking about Aunt Flo (or Florence) who lived close to Tyler, TX. So, it's a strong possibility that we are talking about the same James Hicks and Mary Elizabeth Hicks (Thornton).
The John Hicks I have, brother to Alvin James Hicks (my great grandfather) was married to Mary Hicks (don't know her middle or maiden names). They had 2 sons: Oscar and Jack. Jack Hicks had 2 kids: Albert Hicks and Wanda Faye Hicks. So these are grandchildren of John Hicks. Are either one of these your mother or father, aunt or uncle?
