Hugh Hicks Born 1890 in Kentucky; Mother: Mary Taylor
I have posted information before but I still dont have many answers. I do know that my great-grandfather, Hugh C Hicks, was a bit of a odd dude. Since my last post I have found various historical documents for him... his...
On a Ship Passenger List of 1914. Hugh is listed among several passebgers coming from Cristobal, Canal Zone, Panama. He arrived in New York on 7 Jan 1914. He listed his date of birth as 1888 in Elizabethtown, KY. Also on the steamship was several of his future inlaws (the Burn family). He was go on to marry a member of this Burn family (Isabella) a month later. However... he listed his place of residence as Robinson, IL.
On his WWI Draft Registration Card he lists his name as Hughe C Hicks and states he was born 22 Nov 1889 in Louisville, KY. AT the time of registration he was living in Camdem, NJ
On the 1920 US Census he lists his birthplace as Oklahoma, the birthplace of his father as Kentucky and the birthplace of his mother as Scotland.
On his US US WII Draft Registration Card he lists his name as Hugh Chester Hicks born 22 Nov 1891 in Hardin Co, KY. At the time of registration (1942) he was living along the Black Horse Pike in Grenloch, NJ.
Information on his death certificate (reported by his daughter Mary... my grandmother) states that he was born in Kentucky and that his mother's name was Mary Taylor. His father's name is not listed.
Family legend originally held that he was born on an Indian Reservation in Bowling Green, KY. His mother's name was Mary Taylor and she was apparently related to Zachary Taylor. I know longer believe he was born in Bowling Green but I do think he was born in Kentucky. Apparently it is also known that he served 2 years as a Chaplain in the US Military. For many years he sold Life Insurance and he eventually became a Constable and Judge in Grenloch, NJ.
If anyone has information about his birth... or about his parents... I would really like to know about it. Have a Nice Day!
