Hi Naomi!
Sounds like any connection we might have goes way back to the days in Cornwall. My g-g-grandfather, Richard Vyvyan Hicks, arrived in Southwestern Michigan from the St. Columb Major area in 1837.He eventually became a successful farmer.Richard, John, and Edward must have been pretty popular male names in the Cornish Hicks clan. Two of Richard's brothers were named John and Edward and the three names show up in the family for many generations.
Are you familiar with the Cornwall Family History Society? You can learn a lot about how our ancestors in Cornwall lived from their quarterly publication. You might want to check them out.
