I am searching for information concerning John J. Hicok who lived in Hancock County, IL in the mid 1800's. According to the IL Marriage Index, he married Mary N. Loomis in Hancock County on June 15, 1843. He must have lived in Appanoose or Pontoosuc Township. He signed a deed as Justice of the Peace when my second great grandfather, WILLIAM LOOMIS, sold his land in Appanoose Township in 1851. I believe it is possible that John Hicok's wife, Mary, might have been a sister to William Loomis. According to census records William was born in NY in about 1804-5. A William Loomis who was from Utica, NY, was born about this time and he had a sister named Mary Loomis who appeared to live with her brother at some point. I wonder if they both traveled from NY to IL where each married. If you have information regarding John J. Hicok and his wife, Mary, please contact me. I'd like to know more about her ancestry and life.
