Hi!! I have a private family genealogy of the first Hickmans to migrate from England to Tasmania (Australia) in 1842 -- Richard and Phyllis(from whom I am descended)-- in which mention is made of the migration of other Hickman clan members to America .. esp Maryland (Edward and Elizabeth, 1685), Philadelphia (Andrew, Adam, John, Joseph, Peter, and Selby 1800-1860) and VA (Henry, 1635; Thomas, 1652; William, 1655) and to Jamaica(Richard,1661). Direct family connections between UK families and US emigrees are not cited, as its main focus is on the Tasmanian family, however, would be happy to share our info with you if that might help you in yr search.
The Hickman clan was originally seated in Oxfordshire, UK, where the first on record were Richard and Julianna who held the manor and lands in that county in 1275; they later became Lords of the Manor of Bloxham and Wickham in Oxfordshire etc etc.. the clan playedimportant role in local affairs and the political and religious development of England. Some later were forced and/or choseto migrate to Ireland, the New World and/or Europe -- many were banished from England for religious reasons.
