Hello,Martin Hibbert,Many thanks for you e-mail. I think it very likely there is a connection between our branches of the family. The problem maybe working it out. Like you I have very little knowledge of my fathers family. What I have gleaned is logically working back and I am stuck at Ellis. He was married in Stockport to Eliza Kidd. On the certificate his fathers name is John.Their employment is listed as Bleacher and Dyer respectively.Initially they seem to have lived in Heaton Norris but between 1862 and 1866 they moved to Prestwich. According to the 1881 census their address was Wash Lane(probably pulled down by now)There were seven children still living at home including my grandfather Thomas and his younger brother Ellis. Ellis senior was possibly dead as Eliza is listed as Head of the family. However,at the moment I cannot get any further because of family commitments.Do you have any idea where the family originated from? My father was always told the plague village. He assumed this to mean Eyam in Derbyshire.I hope this is not to confusing and probably not very helpful. When I find out any more information I'll be in touch.
