I think there are a few problems with this information.
While it does appear that John's mother was named Mary Smith, the middle name of Lois does not seem to be likely. I think this came about because a researcher of about 80 years ago was named Mary Lois Smith and people simply transferred her name to our ancestor.
My files indicate that John Hiatt (1696-1764) was married twice, first to Rachel Wilson, as indicated, and second, to Margaret Stephens, mentioned in his will. The attachment of Anna Maria Merkle is probably someone's attempt to tie our Hiatts to the German family of Jost Hite, an association for which I have seen no real evidence.
I have read that John Hiatt's parents immigrated to Bucks County, Pennsylvania in 1699, which would suggest that John was born in England, probably in the area of Glastonbury in Somerset.
I would be very interested in any information regarding the life of John Hiatt and his family.
