I have quite a bit on John SMITH and Pocahontas, not able to put it all here, but I wrote a brief on it 1988, will send that as attachment if you will email me at LarryAndy@aol.com
In short, I had many people of different branches separated over miles and generations, of connections to Indian blood, of ties to John SMITH and of ties to John SMITH and Pocahontas. Toungue in cheek I began to check out those stories, found more then I could have thought. IN 1988 I was ridiculed for my statements but much now is accepted.
Pocahontas was at least 13 of 14, therefore marriageble by traditions even in Europe. She is also recognized now as having been married prior to John ROLFE. SMITH was captured and returned by a large group of natives who saved Jamestown by their gifts of food and supplies. John SMITH was then accused of participating in the deaths of his 2 companions killed by the natives at the same time and for planning to marry the Princes Pocahontas. He was found guilty and was in process of hanging when Cpt. Newport arrived and rescued him. When he was injured by exploding gunpowder he was carrying in supplies to build his house amongst the natives, he was held again in chain and sent back to England under the same old charges, how he escaped that I have not found record. When Pocahonatas finally was talked into going back to Jamestown, as she said later to SMITH in her talk to him in England, she thought he was dead and scolded him for not letting her and her father know. She is recorded as saying "I have known no other man before they convinced me you were dead" etc. When she was taken captive and held aboard ship as a hostage, histor of VA also makes note of 2 young children of Powahaton who escaped capture but Powahaton had no other children, these had to be the children of Pocahontas. Etc., much more is in the brief, and it would be fun to talk of but contact me for details.
PS I NEED HELP ON YOUR LINES AS WELL TO UPDATE Larry Anderson
