My Great Great Grandfather was George Washington Hiatt(1821 - 1902) who settled in Clark County, Missouri, near the town of Wyaconda. His children were as follows: Amanda, Ella, Frank, Elza, John, Eva, Grant, Sherman, Lulu, Cora and Myrtle. Not sure about your Grandfather George R.....have not heard that name specifically. But was intrigued about you mentioning George Washington Hiatt in Missouri. Any ties to your family you think? By the way my George W. Hiatt was born in Virginia....lived in Ohio, Indiana, and Iowa prior to moving to MO. His wife's name was Elizabeth (Miller) Hiatt (1831 - 1900).
