Hello. My name is Kehaulani Cosme & my mother, Doris Cosme was adopted in Honolulu, HI in 1937 & we are now trying to find relatives of her birth family. Her offical date of birth is 10/18/1937.
She was adopted by Manuel Cosme born 6/29/1885, died 3/20/1973. He/Manuel was orginally from Paia, Maui. His wife was Mary (Elias) Cosme, born 7/30/1889, died 2/25/1954. Unfortunately I don't have much information or names. All the people that had knowledge at that time have since passed away. My mother's birth certificate reads Manuel & Mary Cosme of Honlulu as her birth parents, but those of you familiar with Hawaii & it's culture, she was "hanai" out at birth. I know her birth parents are of Hawaiian and Chinese decent & that her birth father worked at Pearl Harbor during the time of 1937-1953 or longer perhaps. My mother grew up on Auwaialimu street in Pauoa on Oahu. We also know that her birth parents were not married to each other. She does recall that there was a family that lived across the street from her, the Auld family, who the father of that household supossedly worked w/ my mother's birth father at Pearl Harbor. My mother was not the only adoptees in the Cosme household. There were May Salamanca and a Rosemary.
My mother had a Godfather that kept close watch on her and even paid for her schooling at Scared Hearts Academy in Honolulu. His name was Thomas Piialii Kailiuli, born 3/30/1896, died 2/26/1958. He served in World I and is buried at the Punchbowl Cemetary. He or his family might have information.
If anyone out there might be related to any of the people mentioned, or even know of them & can help point us in the right direction, I would greatly appreciate it. Mentioned were;
