Yeah, it seems I have my work cut out for me! The unfortunate part is that I'm not sure at all. All I know is that my grandmother's name is Ruth Jensen, and have been told, unwillingly, that I have Hawaiian ancestry... but my family is not too keen on admitting this or helping me in my search (AT ALL!).
I know it has to be through the Jensen side, though, because in the family tree info that I have, she is the last listed and it seems everyone before her dropped off the planet. But I also know that if she didn't want anyone to know her family tree, then chances are, no one in Hawaii can tell me anything.
If there are any native Hawaiians reading this, can you let me know if this type of thing (I don't even know what I would call it... denying family ancestry?) is normal. I actually live near big polynesian communities in LA, and know that most are proud to say they are Hawaiian, etc. Thank you again, Samantha
