I am a desc of Elizabeth's sister Magdalene thru her daughter Elizabeth Christman and granddaughter Winnifred Broughton then Amy Davis. Recently I was checking on something unrelated in a book I've had for 30 yrs The Tunis Hood Family: Its Lineage and Traditions by Dell. O Hood & came across a familiar name in reference to the Hites, Van Meters, Hoods etc. You may be interested in the excerpt. I will happily send what little else I have.
".....Joist Hite, as stated by Stapleton in his Memorials of the Huguenots in America, was a native of Strasbourg, Alsace. From there says Cartmell, he came directly to the Hudson River with his wife, Anna Marie DuBois, and daughter Mary.He located at Kingston, NY, on the west bank of the Hudson River, in 1710 where 2 daughters, Magdaline and Elizabeth were born, their births being entered in the baptismal records of the Old dutch Reformed Church in Kingston. He next appears in Old Salem, New Jersey, where he was a fur trader for 7 years......"
Anna Marie DuBois and Anna Marie Merckle appear to be the same person born 16 January 1687 in Manheim, Bonfeld Alsace,Werttenberg,Germany; married 11 Nov 1704 in Werttenberg, and died 1738 in Long Meadows, Strasburg, Virginia. Daughters Anna Maria, and Maria Barbara both died shortly after birth in 1706 and 1707 respectively. Children following are Mary, John, Elizabeth, Magdaline, Jacob, Isaac,Abraham, Joseph, and Susannah. I understand that Elizabeth b.4 Nov 1711; died in 1794 in ,Mercer, KY.
Would like to hear from you.Lynda Curry.
