David,
Benjamin Hewson of Caistor purchased his land in Caistor from George Hargraft who was living in nearby Smithville at the time and was the post master. Hargraft had bought the land at public auction in 1833 and paid a Richard Carter to clear 15 odd acres. Hargraft removed to Cobourg about 1835 or so. Probaby Hargraft never intended to farm the Caistor land himself. The exact relationship is not clear but Hargrafts mother was probably a Hewson. In Cobourg Hewson and Hargraft were connected.First, George's 4th child, 3rd son was John Hewson Hargraft, 27 March 1834 - 9 April 1860, who had no children. Secondly, William Hargraft, George's 2nd child, 2nd son, named his 9th child, 6th son, William Hewson.
son.
I have a letter from Ontario Archives (land records) that has John Hewson of Caistor going to Cobourg about 1851 to settle the money owing on the Caistor land with Hargraft.
The Templemore church records have several of Benjamin Sr. children's christening and one for an Eliza, dau of Andrew Hewson and Mary Anne (Walsh)who were the parents of Andrew Hewson of Cobourg b1819. Possibly Andrew Sr. was a brother to Benjamin Sr. of Caistor.
I have quite a lot of material on these lines but have not
reviewed it in several years. Some of the info is posted on

Much is still in my files.
