Hi Patrick,
I have some information on this family. Mary Hewitt was the daughter of James Hewitt and Eleanor Nichols. She married William Rampley in Rowan, NC on May 11, 1784. Mary's siblings were John, William, Hannah, Thomas and James.
My family is through Mary's brother John. He had children named William, Richard, James, Robert, Alexander and John. James was a preacher. He married an Elizabeth Apsley Osheal. She was the daughter of Jethro Osheal.
Seeing that your name is O'Shields, I wonder if you know anything about that Osheal family. They were very connected to the Hewitt's. They also had a relationship with a Lancaster family in Bute Co., NC. Do you know anything about them?
I have more about the Hewitt family. My branch eventually went to Gwinnett Co., GA and the name became spelled Hewatt.
