Hi Paula, just seen your September message whilst searching the Web for information on Charles Hewitt myself. I am undertaking some family research for my Cousin who's Great Grandmother was Charles & Ann's daughter Harriet (1854). I was searching for further information regarding Ann because of the anomally of her age as stated on the Census returns. As far as I can see in 1861 she was 48 but in 1871 was 45. I also believe somewhere between 1861 and 1871 Ann the first died and Charles remarried Ann the second. I see that you do not have 1971 Census details, the record you are loking for is RG10 Piece 397 Folio 40 Page 19 Address at the time was Kings Square, St Luke, London. This is possibly the same address as in 1881. I have essentially the same information as you but am still researching. Information on Middlesex I can probably help with having been born in Edmonton, Middlesex. Unfortunately the 1800's records for Middlesex included most of London North of the Thames from the City of London. If you have difficulty searching under Middlesex try searching instead London. There is a complete list of streets in London t the latter end of the 1800's, together with the district name at http://www.census1891.com/streets-n.htm you may find this useful to determine the true district if the area is described simply as Middlesex or Surrey (Surrey covered that part of the area South of the Thames. If I manage to sort the Ann's I will let you know If you need any information on Harriet's life, I'd be happy to help. I will also be following the other children as their descendants will be 1st Cousins 3 times removed (I think) of my Cousin, as will you. I would be interested in learning something of Jane after she and the family reached Australia. Brian Notify Administrator about this message?
