We here in northeast Tarrant County have a Civil War veterans monument in place, and are posting biographies and photographs of the men at our Genweb site. If you can add to the following biographical sketch, or could share any photos you might have of this veteran, his wife, or his home, we’d be happy to have them. Thanks for taking the time to read our query. Mike Patterson, Colleyville, Texas.

Henry C. Hewitt was a Union veteran who lived for a time in Grapevine. When the 1890 special veterans’ census was taken there, he said he had served in Co. C, 1st New York Dragoons. His name does not appear in the National Park Service’s Civil War Soldiers and Sailors System databank online. A short history of the regiment may be found online at http://americancivilwar.com/north/new_york_dragoons.html
