Asa Dosher/Brunswick, NC

Hi! I saw that Brunswick, NC was mentioned here, so thought maybe someone could answer my question. We're looking for more information about an Asa Dosher born c. 1829, who married Sarah A. Leheu (or Lehew). We went to the library in Southport, and were able to find that he had a mother Jane Dosher living in the 1850 census, but can't go back farther than this, or find out who his father was. It has SC by their names on the census, which we assume meant they came from South Carolina, but we have no idea which SC county to begin looking in. I know that Dosher is a fairly common name in the Brunswick area - any ideas?
Thank you!
