Hi,
I am from Maine and my Hewes family ,most anyway are from Maine but I am sure the Hewes family did not start here. I have gone back to Abel Huse and as far as I know the name changed way back in the 1600's from Huse to Hewes.
My mother was Laura Fernwood Hewes ,her father was Irving Rosco Hewes ,his father was Joshua M. Hewes ,than it was Elihu Hewes ,than juluis Hewes ,than Abel Huse ,Abel Huse,and Abel Huse.Many of the first Huses(Hewes) came from England.
I don't know if we are related or not. But probley we are somehow. Maybe this will help you some.
