Litha, I am so sorry for not responding sooner. I don't know that I was notified of your post, and I have really been sidetracked, genealogy wise, by participating in our Webb lines DNA project and meeting up with 11 matching lines thru DNA matches!
My mother in law and her siblings got their heads together and found some letters with information about this line. It absolutely names Daniel Hetzel as the grandfather of James F Hetzel, "grandmothers name was Swayze". So that would be Daniel Shoemaker Hetzel married Elizabeth Swayze (her mother's name, possibly Drake). Elizabeth's families came to Northern NJ "before the Revolution, around Warren and Sussex County". Daniel Hetzel was a tailor by trade.
From a cousin, we know that Daniel Shoemaker Hetzel was baptized Oct 18, 1818 (parent's names not given in original), listed birth as 15 Jan 1818, Witness was Fanny Hetzel for dau Mary's child. There are obvious reasons why only his grandmother was there with the minister. There was a Daniel Shoemaker who resided in Walpack, NJ.
Jacob and Fanny Quick Hetzel had other children besides Mary. Jacob, b 1 Aug 1802;Hannah b 3 Feb 1806; and George b 1 July 1809, baptized 17 Jun 1810. All these born in Stillwater, Sussex (now Warren) County New Jersey.
So, it looks like you and my husband are cousins! Please email me, and I'll be glad to send on more information with the references, hope you see this!
