John Wood Hetrick, b.1923, Scotland

I am tracing my paternal ancestry. My father was John Wood Hetrick, b.1923, also known as Ian Wood Hetrick. Father: John Mitchell Hetrick, b. around the 1890's; mother Daisy Wood, also born in the 1890's. One sister, Winifred Hetrick who emigrated to Canada and married Bob Scott. All originate from Scotland. My understanding of the name was that it originated from the Ettrick valley, a region in Scotland. I would be very interested if anyone has any information on the above and I would also be interested in knowing where the name originates from.
