Today we -- meaning most especially Gail Jones, Martin Bellard, and other Heston descendants -- held the first official multi-state Heston Family Reunion in close to 50 years, right here in green Newton, Kansas. Good work, Gail and Martin.
These aren't the official minutes, but I just wanted to be first to say what a treat it was to be able to be here for this Historic event. In reading my old Heston Historian newsletters, I often wished that I could have been a participant. I hereby vow to use my $25 door prize for the furthest-flung Heston in attendance in order to help promote the next reunion.
Martin and Gail have the full attendee list. I counted about 20 folks, from Kansas, Texas, Arizona and Nevada. Not too bad at all! My expectations were exceeded. We shared what family info that we could, and lamented the loss of so many fine Heston family researchers from the last round of reunions into the early 1960s, including John P. Heston, John Heston Heald, Vivian Heston, Tacie Dunn Heston Rodenhurst, and my uncle John T. Heston. But we *will* pick up the threads, modernize (i.e., computerize and save for posterity), and build on their research. We owe it to the family past and to the family future.
To do tribute to them and to build upon this event, Martin, Gail and I have pledged to bend heaven and earth to make the 2009 reunion happen, in Wrightstown PA. We'll have more on this in coming weeks and months. I expect to see many of you there.
-- Dave Heston
PS: There was a lot of interest in the 1959 Wrightstown PA reunion, of which next year's will be held a half-century later to the very day. I've posted the 1959 scrapbook on my file sharing service at http://www.mediafire.com/?sharekey=2ec0e88e64ac83d6d5a101cf914073b49988d53b68a56660 for your convenience, follow the link to "Reunion." All issues of the Heston Historian are up there too.
