It is difficult to tell what the middle initial of David D. Heslep stands for. He had an aunt, Mary, whose second marriage was to David Dickey, who was a prominent citizen of Rutherford County, NC. But his family also had connections with the Doyles. In any event, his parents were Thomas Heslep and Mary Nettles; his birth was in 1795, NC, and his death was after the Civil War, perhaps in Paulding or Polk County, Ga. I am a direct descendent of Thomas, David's father, through William Nettles Heslep, who was my great grandfather.
