Carolyn,
My wife is also the great granddaughter of David Doyle Heslep and Isabelle Vermelle Brockinton. I have lots of data on Isabelle back about 200 years in SC. We have just recently begun to flesh out David Doyle's ancestry. You can find most of our data by reading the messages in the Heslep forum and the Haislip forum.

I am specifically interested in where you got the middle name Doyle for the DD Heslep born 1795, died 1875. As you will read in our messages, there was a Thomas Heslep who married first a Miss Doyle and second a Ms Ann Bugg, widow of George Mann. This Thomas Heslep is believed to be the son of Thomas Heslep and Mary Nettles. They also had a son, D D Heslep, who I believe is the person to whom you refer.

Our problem is we are not sure who fathered David Doyle Heslep. We think we have identified all of your DD Heslep's children and none of them were named David Doyle Heslep. The most likely parent is Thomas, and I suspect David Doyle Heslep got his middle name from his mother, the first wife. However, if Doyle was already a family name, that throws my reasoning in the hopper. Do you know for certain that your D D Heslep was named David Doyle.

Have to run for now, but will get back later.
Wes Hogan
