Katherine Herron Coley, of Powell, TN, went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, March 31, 2009. She was a faithful member of Black Oak Heights Baptist Church for 53 years and served as church Treasurer in the 1980's. Katherine loved her Sunday School Class, the "Willing Workers" and was so appreciative all the prayers, cards, flowers, and calls during her illness. Born about 1925, she was a graduate of Karns High School, Class of 1943. After graduation from high school, 1944-45, Katherine was employed by the Manhattan Project at Y-12. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Powell Chapter, for more than 50 years. Katherine retired from Knoxville Motor Company, Mercedes-Benz in 1982 after more than 30 years as company bookkeeper. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, aunt, sister-in- law, and friend. Preceding her in death were her parents, James and Beulah Prater Herron; brothers, Glen, Howard, Joe, Matt, John; and sisters, Lula Hendrix, and Amanda Beckner. She is survived by her husband of 62 years, Charles Coley, Powell; daughter, Kathy Coley, Lenoir City, TN; sister, Martha Ball, Knoxville, TN; James 'Doc' Herron of Knoxville, TN; and a host of nieces and nephews. The family would like to especially thank Dr. Wesley Dean and his staff at Emory Family Practice, the 3rd floor nursing staff at St. Mary's North, and the nursing and support staff of the West Wing at Summit View Nursing Home of Farragut for their care and comfort. Visitation was from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., Thursday, April 2, 2009, at Weaver Funeral Home. Family and friends met 10:45 a.m., Friday, April 3, 2009, at Sherwood Memorial Gardens for an 11 a.m. graveside service. Rev. Steve Ross officiated.
