Re your post: Do you know what Maryan's (wife of Edward maiden name was? ) Following is what I can prove:
John Dowell born 1764 albermarle Co VA
elder Brother George Dowell born 1760 albermarle Co VA
by 1778 the father was gone from the family..never any mention of a father. In 1778 George dowell returned from Valley Forge where he had been with Washington's troops to his mothers house and found his mother and her family and friends including his brother John moving to Burke Co NC. George moved with them. (Families moving during this period - all closely allied were Barlow, Cleveland, Carlton, Fields, Sumter, Rippitoe, Dowell, Coffey, Allens, Moores, Graves and others) also arriving in Burke Co during this time were the Hickmans, the Davenports and the Whites.
In 1778-79 John Dowell and Richard Heron were living in the same house.
John Dowells first wife was FNU FRANKLIN. they had one son named George who married a Cherokee named Polly Tomberlin.
John Dowell married (2)Sarah Hickman (kin to the Whites Davenports and of course Hickman.
John and Sarah first son was named John MARTIN Dowell. Their next son was Ruben HICKMAN Dowell. The names Martin, Hickman, and Franklin come down John's descendents as first names.
In 1851 John Dowell and Richard Heron were still acquainted and lived 15 miles from one another - Richard in DeKalb Co TN and John in Putnam (formerly Jackson) Co TN.
Families associated with my Dowells thru marriage are Coffeys, Moores, Allens, Burtons, Terrys, Carrs, Carlins, Whitson, and Webb.
That is what I can prove.
I note on this forum that Richard Heron named a son Wiseman . Wiseman had a son he named MARTIN HICKMAN Heron. He had a daughter milly that married a Franklin. There is also a Burton tie.
Conjecture: Was John and George Dowell mother married to Richard Heron father. Was she in fact MaryAn - wife of Edward??? Were Richard Heron and John and George Dowell either step or half brothers? I do not know John and George Dowell father's name but it was possibly FNU MARTIN due to DNA testing. They were raised by the Dowell name . Any help or pointers on how to proceed will be appreciated.
