Nicki, Marie, and others on the James Herrod/Elizabeth McCarty line:
Just a bit of speculation:
As you can see from my postings #'s 61 and 63, Herods and McCartys were connected not only in Montgomery Co., TN., but in the adjacent county of Stewart as well.
I suspect my ancestor Robert Jones' wife was a Herrod, because one of the sons was named Herrod. The other two sons were Reuben and Clayton. The five female children were born mostly in North Carolina and Virginia, so I suspect that my Robert Jones married the posited Herrod woman in NC or VA.I have never found a marriage record for such a marriage in NC or VA, however.
Since families traveled together, it may be that some of the Herrods and McCartys, as well as Robert Jones, migrated from NC and VA.He arrived about 1807 according to tax records.I have not checked the tax records of Stewart Co. for Herrods and McCartys.
Of course, the child Herod Jones may have been named for a favorite family friend or neighbor, but surely not for the Biblical character!
