British Mercantile Claim against William Herring

British Mercantile Claims p. 75: Wm. Herring, Orange County, Virginia, 17.1.1 pds due Wm Beattie. A man of this name lived in Orange County before the war... he is represented as "to have been a drunken worthless blackguard person, wholly destitute of property and not entitled to credit of any sum." He removed to North Carolina sometime after the commencement of hostilities and it is probable he was a resident of Orange County in that state when this debt was contracted.

My supposition is that this may be William Herring, husband of Mary Stodghill, who did in fact go from Orange County, Virginia to North Carolina.
